“One more cup of coffee ‘fore I go
To the valley below”

—Bob Dylan

I want to be invaded
by love

And swept away like leaves in fall. I want
to melt

into the pot with the spoon
that you stir until

I’m brought to a boil. I want
to evaporate into your breath, a little death, and then –

I want to live
forever in your lungs.

A taste of the air
that you breathe. I want to stumble

A conversation of nothing
I want the easiness of it

To hear the sound of your voice

myself, late, after
everyone’s asleep –

As it all was –
I want to see what the bird

sees before he sings
at your new window. I want to be

the only man that you love

I want to want without
your ghost

but with the flesh of your persons.
I want to walk

away. Why drive –

I had love, and stuff, and now –

I want to pick
at the stitches myself.

I want to feel
each fabric your thread has been sewn into

& make it my pillow –

I want to bruise from the water
of a memory bank

& refuse to let the mud of my stomach turn back to solid ground.

I tried,
found it won’t dry –

I’ll go home, I guess,
to my room where the moon’s

not visible, but its light
still is
